October 2007

Well when people ask me what we got up to on the weekend, last week, last month or whatever, I can never remember - so it's probably a good thing that I started this blog - for them and for me.

This way I can go back and check - Oh ja, we did do stuff!!

October was such a month when I couldn't remember what we did - until I saw these photos I'd saved.

First up, some of our Dublin friends came down to Cork for a bit of a tour. They didn't stay with us - which was a pity - but they came to visit and Cath spoilt them with all sorts of delicious bikkies while I went off to work. But the next day, we met them at Shandon cathedral (where you can climb the bell tower and ring the bells yourself) and we headed off to Fota wildlife park and some beautiful gardens. I can't remember everyone's names, but here's the group (of various nationalities) at the Shandon steps.

This photo is of the girls up on one of the trees in the garden - probably illegal - but it was a good photo op.

The wildlife park had various animals - giraffe, zebra, ostriches, monkeys, cheetahs, etc and was quite cool.

Cath always wanted to be an ostrich and tried to look like one - but I still think she looks like a monkey.

Cath and I also headed back to Dublin soon after Cath had moved down to be with me as Cath had to organise Gabrielle's baby shower.

Stewart and I headed off to the pub while the ladies chatted, played games and handed over prezzies to the mother to be and then we caught up with them later to help eat the left-overs.

The photo below show Stew, gabs, Cath and Michele - another of our church buddies.

Also in October, the annual jazz festival heads to Cork and it is a BIG THING!

I would never have believed how big jazz is here, but I'd say thousands of people head down for the weekend. Pubs start charging entrance fees if they have musicians playing and the whole place is a bit crazy.

Not wanting to be left out, Cath and I headed to a nearby hotel which had various conference rooms dedicated to different bands. We really felt like we had stepped back in time as we sat and listened to 60s style bands play away.

I think it was on the way home that Cath snapped this view of our local church - either that or this is taken from our appartment window.

And then lastly, but not least - it was the world cup final - which I have written about in another entry. But here's us (again) heading off to the match. I wanted to paint our faces but its been 3 years since we left SA originally and my face paints had all dried up. Bummer.

And, as Forest Gump said, that's all I have to say about that.
