SPX Valentine's day dance

Our church has a Valentine's day dance every year, and we decided to head along this year, despite the fact that it's usually for the old fogies. Hey, I suppose we're getting there.
Turns out our buddies were thinking the same thing, so Rory organised a table for us.

We take our food seriously though, so everyone brought
something along and we pigged out. Curry, suchi, garlic bread, pudding, sald, beer, wine, fruit juice - we had it all.

Tash, Marianne and Malcolm & Rory, Ian and Cath.

Tim and Garom & Bel and Rory.

Suchi time (thanks Tim and Morag!)

Oh, and thanks to Granny and Grandpa V for babysitting! You guys rock.

David on the court

Those who know me know that I love taking sports photographs.
I also love watching my family play sport so I often combine the two.
Having watched Emma's hockey enough times, it was David's turn
to suffer the click, click of my camera.

He was playing at SACS v Camps Bay.
Here the big guy lets rip with a 347kph serve, a world record.
Good execution.

Dave runs around his backhand to moer his forehand, as I did when I was his age.

Another forehand, dammit David I TOLD YOU
to put your LEFT foot forward on your forehand!
See me in my office.

The Argus versus the world...

Okay, maybe not the world, but the other media then.

The Argus - the newspaper I work for - put together a team to take part in the cricket challenge in aid of charity. It was quite a lot of fun.

Zelim, our rugby writer, and Ally, our results expert.

Zelim faded - he didn't play but Ally gave the bat a swing.

This was the set-up and our team, comprising my boss Lindiz, and guys from the Cape Times, our sister paper.

Ally hits out and steals a single in the first game.

We played fiver games in all and won 3. I sat out the first one which we lost so my record, as I told the team, was bloody good at 80% success.

In the first game I played I scored about 10 off an over not out, hit the winning runs and took a wicket.

In the second game I didn't bat and went for about 10 in my over.

In my third game I didn't bat and went for 25 in my over! Ouch. I kept watching the ball go over my head. That was the game we lost.

In the last game I played wicketkeeper (didn't bowl after that last over) and got run out by my partner, scoring about 7.

What a poser... Ally and I.
All in all, a good day out.

Feb - living at Granny and Grandpa's house

(Singing) Oh how I love to be beside the seaside...

But failing that, I'll just swim in a pool...

I can't remember if this was Emma's first time in her baby pool. I think it was. She took to it quite well, but would occasionally crawl out, onto the freshly mowed lawn, cover herself in grass, and then climb back in. She loved it.

Granny feeds Emma some rooibos tea (cold) in her Emma cup. Good ol gran.

Hello Police? I'd like to report a 137 in progress - child locked up against her will without trial.

Emma and Jonty love to help in the garden. Jonty likes to keep the pile of weeds/grass that you've pulled out safe by lying on it and Emma... well she just eats the odd leaf here or there.

Paw. No you first. Emma and Jonty share an ET moment.

Believe it or not, this is Emma asleep in her cot. The room is pitch dark but the camera flash brightened it up. How's that position? Talk about making yourself comfy.
I guess she was too warm - they say babies sometimes do this type of thing when they get too hot...?

Moving the Heany and Valkenburg stuff

Propvol!

So, having been kicked out of the Heany house, we headed
to my parents' house. Only problem - all our stuff.

So having hired a storage garage for the Heany stuff, we hired another for our stuff, and half of Charles' garage at his house, and set about packing them propvol.
As usual, Ian and Rory helped us with the big stuff, but Emma snr, Delboy and even ma Heany when she was around, helped with a load or two.
Things were packed deurmekaar cos we knew we wouldn't need anything until we moved into our place. Hence we put things on top of things, up to the roof to maximise space.
It was a mess, as seen above in storage garage 1.

Granny looked after the destructor - we couldn't let her loose in those garages - it'd be like letting a bull loose in a China shop!

Garage number 2 - upstairs. Emma sneaks in past the bedstand, steps over the coffee table, ducks under the outside chairs and can now help lift the matress out. Delboy watches on, his huge chest musles preventing him from making it through the gap.

Lil Emma keeps herself busy outside, happy for now.

A touch of Feb #1

MMM. suppertime. How about a teething biscuit... all over my face.

That dog wants my snacks - she's taken them before. I'm watching you dog. (photo on right shows Jonty licking her lips in anticipation of bits dropped on floor).

For the 21st - baby flab - 2cms worth. She's like a little Michelin man or Oros man.

Granny uses the babysling. Looks good, should use it more often.

Mago strips and biltong pieces. Mmmm.

And we end this post as we began, with a piccie of Emma stuffing her face!

The World according to Valkenburg

As if Facebook, gmail and hotseminakedswedishblondes.com weren't taking up enough of my time, now I'm writing a blog!

Oh well - it just goes to show - any idiot can write a blog.
