In Kirstenhof and Varsity Cup final

Our new house: the scenery may have changed, but lil Emma hadn't...

It doesn't matter who you are, if you're
holding that spoon, you're my best friend.

Unless you take too long, then things get serious
and I may need to remind you of your obligations
with a wave of my arms and a bit of a moan.

Check out those teeth! Five and counting.

Emma's new favourite game: drop the food over the side of the high chair and watch it.

Longing for a bath...

She does this all the time... crawl up to you, get on knees, pull herself up to a standing position, then wiggle and shake around or lift her arms to be picked up.

When she lifts her arms, I can't resist... I have to pick her up. She's so cute.

Speaking of cute... Daddy-o cooked a pie, and the girls like pie!
It was my green curry and butternut chicken pie I think.
Cath thinks my cooking was such an occasion we had to document it with a photie.
Emma supplied the drinks.

Monday nights are Varsity Cup nights, and we headed through to the final in Stellenbosch to watch the two dominant teams of the competition - both from the Cape - do battle once again, in the final.
Maties had won 2 out of 2 finals, beating UCT in the first year while UCT crashed out in the semis last year.

Moon rise.
I smuggled in a vuvuzela down the inside leg of my pants, despite being frisked! Scary.
But I couldn't blow it as they weren't allowed in. I did blow it on the way out though, which got some decent death stares - this was rugby country, not football territory.

The photos aren't great, but it was night time.

Maties in maroon, UCT in stripes.

Maties won deservedly, although they didn't convert their pressure into points and it was closer than it should have been at the end. I think it was about a four-point margin.

Our crowd: Delboy, Carly, Rory, Emma and I.

Moving into our new home and David's matric dance

IT FINALLY HAPPENED....

We moved into our new house, in Kirstenhof, Cape Town on the 15th on March 2010.
Woo-freeking-hoo!
The place is about a 15 minute drive from my parents' place and about 20 from Cath's parents' place.

Going in the front door.
Nobody is more gatvol than Cath and I of moving boxes...

except maybe Ma Heany, Emma, Delboy, Rory and Ian.

Where was David while all this packing, moving,
lifting, carrying, storing, fitting, etc was going on you ask?
A good question.
David?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of the rat...

He's in his final year at school now. I know, I can't believe it either. And final year means MATRIC DANCE!
He organised himself a hottie...
The one above, not the hottie below... she's taken, but she couldn't resist a snap of herself with him looking as dashing as he did.

The boys...

The girls...

And their transport to the dance...

All in all, I'm sure they had a good time, didn't drink anything at the afterparties and behaved themselves impeccably.

Argus cycle tour - and a move-in date

Many of my cycling friends are now pooh-poohing the Argus cycle Tour - the biggest timed cycle race in the world I'll have you know - saying that the appeal is fading and that other, more strenuous events are the way to go.

I still like it, but I'm happy to watch it now. Hey, I've done 6.

I's 109kms - around the Cape peninsula - up hills and mountains, along highways, with 34,999 other cyclists to keep you company.

Stevie Smith made his way past on the far side of the
road from us. He was so fast he was just a blur.

This year, I made a plan to take my church youth club
along - with a skottel to make bacon and egg rolls.

It went down well.

Rory's ass in the distance... I wasn't too quick on the draw with my camera. In fact, I would have missed him completely if Catherine hadn't yelled at me - "There's Rory you dumbass!" (or something like that).

Last but not least, one of our own came past - Trevor from the Youth Club - in his first Argus. He was kind enough to stop for a photie (so I got a good one).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, quick newsflash:

We move into our house next week, pretty much exactly one year since we returned from Ireland.

Ignore the date above this post - this is a post for the 7th of March.

The old fogie leaves on the Monday and we're in on the Tuesday (the 16th March).

Then the packing, carrying and shlep begins.

First priority: making the baby room comfy and dark.

Second priority: get the dogs and cat used to the place so that they don't want to escape.

Everything else can be done later.

I think we have our first braai for the Heany fam on the Thursday.

Dominique's birthday + a few bits n bobs

Little Dominique's (lil Emma's cousin) birthday saw her mom bake her an awesome sunflower cake, which to be quite honest, I didn't get enough of.

Granny as Happy as Larry when she holds a grandchild, this time the birthday girl.

Little Dom then got round to opening her prezzies. Lil Louis couldn't resist helping his sister. He quite liked her doll. Suspicious. This added to his shoe fetish is cause for concern to me - gonna have to take him to a few strip joints to get him straightened out.

LOOK GRANDPA! Two good looking girls.
That's better, he seems alright now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back at our house, well, Granny and Grandpa's house, Emma was eating again...

...which always makes her happy.

And after a bit of food, what about a game of 'drag the baby up the passage in a carboard box'.
She reaaaaally liked this game.

SPX Valentine's day dance

Our church has a Valentine's day dance every year, and we decided to head along this year, despite the fact that it's usually for the old fogies. Hey, I suppose we're getting there.
Turns out our buddies were thinking the same thing, so Rory organised a table for us.

We take our food seriously though, so everyone brought
something along and we pigged out. Curry, suchi, garlic bread, pudding, sald, beer, wine, fruit juice - we had it all.

Tash, Marianne and Malcolm & Rory, Ian and Cath.

Tim and Garom & Bel and Rory.

Suchi time (thanks Tim and Morag!)

Oh, and thanks to Granny and Grandpa V for babysitting! You guys rock.

The World according to Valkenburg

As if Facebook, gmail and hotseminakedswedishblondes.com weren't taking up enough of my time, now I'm writing a blog!

Oh well - it just goes to show - any idiot can write a blog.
